Its already been a busy and somewhat productive offseason for the New York Islanders and general manager Garth Snow, but this organizations future will be determined by what it does this summer.Forget for a moment that the Islanders lost Kyle Okposo, Frans Nielsen and Matt Martin to free agency on July 1. Also, set aside that the boys from Brooklyn have new teammates in the mix, including Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera and P.A. Parenteau, because the Islanders blueprint for success is based on franchise player John Tavares. The 25-year-old star center and captain has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Islanders. He will earn $12 million in that time before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2018. If the organization is not in a better position as a true Stanley Cup contender by that point, its a safe bet Tavares will test the market as one of the premier players in the NHL.A lot can happen between now and then, of course, and the Islanders have certainly made progress, but they have an opportunity to become a perennial playoff contender. It was a huge step for Snow, coach Jack Capuano, and the players to reach the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs last season, before they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games. The new majority ownership of Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky took control of the team on July 1, and quickly released a statement, backing the GM and coach.Garth Snow and Jack Capuano, who led the Isles to an exciting playoff run in 2016, have our full confidence, Ledecky wrote. We commit ourselves to doing what it takes to bring our fans and the team a fifth Stanley Cup, and eagerly await the home opener at Barclays Center on Oct. 16.A true testament of how close this team is on and off the ice came the day after last season ended. Travis Hamonic, who had requested a trade before last season in order to be closer to his Winnipeg home because of a sick family member, rescinded his trade request and the 25-year-old defenseman wants to remain with the Islanders.Despite the teams loss to the Lightning, Hamonics decision to stay was a good way to start the offseason. When free agency opened on July 1, Okposo, Martin and Nielsen signed elsewhere. Those three players were major contributors to the teams success, but Snow was quick to react when he signed Ladd, 30, a two-time Stanley Cup-winning forward; Chimera, who brings a ton of experience, grit and leadership; and the return of Parenteau, who played on Tavares right side from 2010-12. The Islanders also signed promising 23-year-old restricted free-agent center Shane Prince to a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $850,000.Still, not everyone is optimistic about the direction of the team. One Eastern Conference GM said in a text message. he wasnt a big fan of the moves. Ladd 7 yrs is crazy. Lost better players to UFA. Another Eastern Conference executive wasnt sure the Islanders were closer to contention.?Tough call, he wrote in a text. Typically a conference finals berth signifies true contention.Like every team, goaltending is key for the Islanders. Thomas Greiss, 30, was the teams go-to guy in the playoffs, and proved to be worthy on that stage. The team recently signed restricted free-agent goalie Jean-Francois Berube, 24, who made his NHL debut with the Islanders last season and will earn $675,000 in 2016-17.Its likely Snow could trade veteran netminder Jaroslav Halak, 31, who has two years remaining on his current deal worth $4.5 million annually. He suffered a severe groin injury in early March and missed the remainder of the season, and Greiss took over the job between the pipes.Moving Halak will give Snow much-needed cap relief, even if it means acquiring only a draft pick in return. After beating the top-seeded Florida Panthers in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in April, the Islanders proved they are on the cusp of becoming a dangerous team in the Eastern Conference.Snow still has work to do this offseason, but how things unfold in Brooklyn in the near future will be the key to success for this team. Coyotes Jerseys 2021 . Jane Virtanen scored two, and Alex Roach and Elliott Peterson rounded out the offence for the Hitmen (40-15-6). Brady Brassart chipped in with three assists. Colton McCarthy scored twice, Brayden Point had a goal and two assists, and Jack Rodewald also scored for the Warriors (15-35-9), who were 2 for 5 on the power play. Clayton Keller Jersey . Kuznetsov, who was selected by the Capitals in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has been playing for his hometown team Chelyabinsk Traktor of the KHL. https://www.cheapcoyotes.com/828z-jason-demers-jersey-coyotes.html . The judges scored it 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 for Jones (19-1). It was the champions closest call. Despite the loss, it was a remarkable show by the confident Swedish challenger, who had the best of the early rounds and then hung on in the fourth and fifth. Keith Tkachuk Jersey . Thats not a comment on the suspension that banished the Portland Winterhawks general manager and coach from his Western Hockey League teams bench for most of the 2012-13 season. Max Domi Jersey . Giroud, who wasnt in the starting lineup for two matches after allegations about his private life and a decline in form, scored twice in the first half. Tomas Rosickys chip made it 3-0 before half time at Emirates Stadium, while defender Laurent Koscielny scored an unmarked header in the second half. PHILADELPHIA -- A strong defense can only do so much.Josh Huff returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, Carson Wentz outplayed Sam Bradford and the Philadelphia Eagles handed error-prone Minnesota its first loss, 21-10 on Sunday. The Vikings relied on excellent defense and a mistake-free offense to start 5-0. But the Eagles exposed several of their weaknesses. An offense missing both starting tackles and running back Adrian Peterson -- not to mention QB Teddy Bridgewater -- had big trouble against Philadelphia (4-2). Bradford was pressured all game and struggled for the first time in five games for his new team.We turned the ball over, we didnt block people, we dropped balls, we got the quarterback hit, we gave up a 98-yard kickoff return , we fumbled a punt, coach Mike Zimmer said. So if youre going to do those things, you have no chance to win.The Vikings have to figure things out quickly because they suddenly dont look like the team to beat in the NFC North. They play at Chicago (1-6) next Monday, and then four of their next five opponents have a winning record with the other game against Arizona.Meanwhile, the Eagles got back on track after two straight losses. They have a first-place showdown at Dallas (5-1) next Sunday night, and their next five opponents have winning records.Heres what we learned from Philadelphias win over Minnesota:BLITZING BRADFORD: Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz used the blitz far more than usual, and it worked. The result was 19 hits on Bradford, six sacks, two recovered fumbles and one interception. Bradford seemed more concerned with avoiding the rush than keeping his eyes on downfield receivers. We knew traps would give him in trouble, LB Connor Barwin said. We knew when he gets pressure he likes to get the ball outside right away. And so we brought some of that pressure.CARSONS GROWTH: Wentz had a rough first half, throowing two interceptions after only one pick in his first five games.dddddddddddd He also missed some open receivers. But the No. 2 overall draft pick settled in nicely and led a couple scoring drives.Carson played well, played efficient, made some good throws, coach Doug Pederson said. He seems to get better each and every week. I dont want to overload him, obviously. I think hes in a good spot mentally with the offense, and weve just got to keep building on what weve begun with him.AGGRESSIVE PLAYCALLING: Pederson took a point off the board after a roughing penalty on the Vikings against Caleb Sturgis and went for the 2-point conversion. Wentz ran it in up the middle on a draw. Pederson then went for fourth-and-2 from the Vikings 44 with 1:21 left in the first half. Wentz gained 6 yards on a keeper and the drive ended with Sturgis making a 35-yard field goal for an 11-3 lead. For me, it was an easy situation and I had trust in our guys, Pederson said.LINE TROUBLES: Minnesotas offensive line, missing starters Matt Kalil and Andre Smith for the rest of the season, had more problems. T.J. Clemmings and Jeremiah Sirles started and newly signed left tackle Jake Long rotated in. His Vikings debut was forgettable: Long allowed two strip sacks .We need to do a better job, Zimmer said. Were not going to go down the street and pick up a bunch of guys. We need to get these guys better and do it quickly.HOME-FIELD DOMINANCE: The Eagles are 3-0 at home for the first time since 2014, when the team opened with six straight wins at Lincoln Financial Field. Theyve outscored the Steelers and Vikings 55-13 in the past two games.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP-RobMaaddi ' ' '
