Lahiru Thirimanne, the Sri Lanka batsman, might need a break from cricket to sort out his problems, said the A team coach Avishka Gunawardene.Thirimanne had played in the four-day matches against West Indies A in October and averaged 9.83 from six innings, continuing his struggles in long-form cricket. Since January 2014, he has made only two fifties in 16 Tests. As a result, he has missed Sri Lankas home series against Australia in August and was not in the squad for the tour of Zimbabwe either.Everyone goes through a bad patch sometimes, Gunawardene said. It is best to give it a break, a few weeks from cricket. Sometimes when you do wrong things and when you take a break you forget them. You basically tend to forget what you are doing wrong and you come out fresh.Thirimanne needs to take his mind off cricket and take a break. There is hardly anything wrong with his technique. The issue is probably more mental than technical. You could see that when you talk to him. When he debuted, in 2011, Thirimanne was seen as a player who could take over the No. 3 spot for Sri Lanka in Tests. Kumar Sangakkara had been their specialist in that position and though it has been over a year since he retired, the transition has not happened. Thirimanne has slipped down the pecking order and 21-year old Kusal Mendis has been given the No. 3 position.Gunawardene felt Thirimannes major problem was confidence. In the four-day game, he dropped a few chances and its all to do with confidence. His confidence level is a little down. He tried to defend while batting and he got out and in the second innings. He tried to attack and still got out.Thirimanne is a very good player and we all know he is capable of big innings. To me he just needs to get out and take a break for a couple of weeks and come out with a fresh mind.Thirimanne would still need runs, though, to make it back to the Test side and Gunawardene believed a profitable domestic season could help him achieve that goal. Its a good opportunity for him in the upcoming domestic season to go and get back into form, score some big runs and get his confidence and rhythm back. Bruins Jerseys China . There are no hard feelings with best mate Jamie Whincup in the fallout over the Bathurst 1000 controversy, Will Davison insists. But it seems the same cant be said about Whincups Red Bull Racing (RBR) team boss Roland Dane.Holdens Davison admitted he looked forward to officially celebrating his Bathurst 1000 win after this weekends Gold Coast 600, almost two weeks after the Great Race.RBR launched an appeal after Whincup crossed the Bathurst finish line first, only to be relegated to 11th due to a time penalty for his role in a late incident that took out Volvos Scott McLaughlin and Holdens Garth Tander.Davison had no problem with old friend Whincup contesting the penalty despite not being able to officially celebrate his second Bathurst win until RBRs protest was dismissed on Tuesday night - 10 days after the race finish. However, Davison hinted that he may not feel the same about RBR boss Dane.Davison revealed Dane rang him after RBR launched their appeal against Whincups penalty, telling him: changing the race result was the last thing he wanted to do.He said he didnt want to take away the result but I dont think it meant he wasnt trying to, Davison told AAP.But it is a cut throat industry and always will be.But I was always confident that we were safe.Davison has been best mates with Whincup since their junior go kart days and they stay in close contact on the Goldd Coast where they are both based.ddddddddddddDavison said nothing had changed despite RBRs appeal earning the ire of critics, including Supercars boss James Warburton who described it as un-Australian.It was an awkward situation for everyone, he said. But Jamie and I didnt have issues with each other because I wasnt personally involved in the incident. There are no hard feelings. Everyone did what they had to do rightly or wrongly.Davison said his only regret was that his team could not have officially popped the champagne over Bathurst earlier.I wish our boys were able to enjoy it a bit more the last week, he said. But it doesnt mean we wont enjoy it when we get a bit of time off soon.Davison was confident that the RBR appeal would fail but reckoned he had plenty up his sleeve if the worst case scenario arose.I didnt want it to go any further but I wasnt concerned, he said. But we knew some facts. I didnt try and race Jamie in the final laps after he got that time penalty. We knew he wasnt in the race with 11 laps to go so I purposely didnt challenge him.We kept our mouths shut and it all worked out.Meanwhile, series leader Shane van Gisbergen was fastest (one minute, 10.42 seconds) in Fridays practice ahead of this weekends two 300km races.
