Fernando Alonso says he dreamed of taking a shock podium finish after making a storming start to the Singapore Grand Prix.Having qualified ninth on the grid, Alonso took advantage of a quick getaway, and a first-lap incident involving Force Indias Nico Hulkenberg, to move into fifth place at the end of the opening lap. The Spaniard went on to finish seventh at Marina Bay.Alonso admits he allowed himself to start thinking about the possibility of claiming what would have been McLarens first podium since Australia 2014 due to the unpredictable nature of the Singapore Grand Prix.?At one point I dreamed of the podium because on lap one being P5 in Singapore you think things will happen in front of you, said Alonso. But nothing happened today and they arrived very quickly behind, Vettel and Verstappen. After initial pre-race optimism that McLaren could be the fourth best team at Singapore was quelled on Saturday, Alonso feels he got the most out of Sundays race.So best of the rest -- seventh was the maximum. I think today we maximised what we had in hand and hopefully next time we can improve.dddddddddddd. We were not the fourth quickest team here so to make the seventh place is thanks to the strategy and the guys today, so I am happy. The two-time world champion explained his decision to go to the outside on the run into Turn 1, which crucially meant he avoided getting caught up in the chaos at the start, as Carlos Sainz and Hulkenberg tangled, sending the latter spinning into the pit wall.I chose the outside because the first couple of meters were good and then the first corner I braked late to pass Kvyat and nearly Raikkonen, said Alonso. The crash didnt effect much because I was already sixth at that position, so the start was very good.Everything went fine this time, sometimes we need to get lucky. Sometimes there is a narrow line from hero to zero and today was a good one. ' ' '
