RENTON, Wash. - With an important matchup against the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals approaching on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks are set to get a boost defensively with the return of middle linebacker Bobby Wagner to the lineup.Wagner missed the last five games after tearing the tendon that attaches his big toe to the bottom of his foot. He was initially told to expect to miss eight weeks with the injury. However, Wagners recovery has been substantially ahead of schedule and he will play Sunday against the Cardinals.Bobby is going to play. Were really excited to have him back, coach Pete Carroll said.Wagner had to have his foot in a cast for two weeks with his toe curled to allow the tendon to heal naturally. Then an additional three weeks were required for rehab before he was able to return to the practice field this week.I feel good. Im very excited to play. Ive had a great week of practice and Im just looking forward to getting back out there and competing with the guys, he said.Wagner compiled 50 tackles in just five games before suffering the injury in the first half against the Dallas Cowboys.Newly signed centre Lemuel Jeanpierre is up to speed and also ready to play this week. Jeanpierre was re-signed Tuesday after starter Max Unger suffered a high-ankle sprain last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. He came back really sharp, Carroll said. (It was) surprising that he was able to retain so much but he was on it. Hes very confident and demonstrated that, so hes ready to go.Carroll wouldnt comment on whether Jeanpierre or Patrick Lewis would get the start Sunday against the Cardinals, but said both are ready to go if needed.Running back Marshawn Lynch returned to practice Friday after getting two days off to rest his ailing back. Carroll said Lynch should be ready to go and is listed as probable on the injury report.Hes made it through, Carroll said. Were adjusting the days (of practice) as we need to to accommodate and he got through it fine and he looks like hes ready.Carroll also took the opportunity to speak regarding questions that Lynch may not be back with the Seahawks next season. We want him around here for as long as he can play and theres never been any hesitation, Carroll said. Theres never been any thought of that. That came totally from somewhere else. Hes under contract next year. Well be thrilled to have him playing for us next year. So well do everything we can to get that done. The Seahawks officially ruled out Unger, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder) and cornerback Marcus Burley (hamstring). Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs is doubtful with a knee injury and guard James Carpenter will be a game-time decision after being held out of practice on Friday.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLEric Thames Brewers Jersey . LOUIS -- Carlos Beltran was unaware that he had gone a season-long 24 games without a home run. "I dont think about things like that," he said. "Its not about homers. Its about helping the team." Beltran ended his drought with a tiebreaking shot, Adam Wainwright earned his 18th win and the St. Louis Cardinals beat Washington 4-3, eliminating the Nationals from playoff contention. Looking for their first NL Central title since 2009, the Cardinals maintained a two-game lead over Cincinnati and Pittsburgh with five to play. All three teams are headed to the post-season. The Reds and Pirates both won Monday night, clinching at least a wild-card berth when Washington lost. St. Louis secured no worse than a wild card on Sunday. The Nationals won the NL East last season with 98 wins, but were eliminated by St. Louis in the division series. One year later, they were knocked out by the Cardinals again. "It doesnt feel too good," manager Davey Johnson said. "We gave it a good fight. We just came up short. "Now, were spoilers. So its not over for us." Beltrans two-run homer in the fifth off rookie Tanner Roark broke a 2-all tie. It was his team-leading 24th of the season and first in 91 at-bats since Aug. 24. "The last thing I was thinking about there was a home run," Beltran said. "Ive been scuffling a little at the plate, but the way for that to go away is to keep playing and continue to swing the bat." Wainwright (18-9) gave up three runs and seven hits over seven-plus innings. He struck out five, giving him a career-high 214 on the season. "This was a great team win. Everybody did their part," Wainwright said. Jayson Werth hit a two-run homer on the 15th pitch of the game. Wainwright then retired nine in a row and allowed just one run on five hits the rest of the way. He moved into second in the NL in wins behind Washington right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, who has 19. "The first inning, sometimes great teams are going to put a couple runs together like that," Wainwright said. "The key is to keep pitching and limit the damage." St.dddddddddddd. Louis manager Mike Matheny was impressed with the way Wainwright bounced back from the slow start. "Its amazing that once he gets going, how different his stuff looks," Matheny said. "It doesnt matter what he looks like early, hes going to put it together." Trevor Rosenthal got two outs for his first career save. Roark (7-1) gave up four runs and five hits in five innings for his first loss in four starts. He went 45 2-3 innings before allowing his first home run. "I didnt have fastball command and I was getting behind hitters," Roark said. "If you do that against a good team, theyre going to hit your mistakes." Washington closed to 4-3 in the eighth on singles by Anthony Rendon and Steve Lombardozzi and a groundout from Ryan Zimmerman. St. Louis reliever Carlos Martinez got Werth to ground out with a runner in scoring position to end the threat. The Cardinals climbed within 2-1 on a run-scoring single by Yadier Molina in the first. They tied it on successive singles from David Freese, Daniel Descalso and Shane Robinson in the fourth. Robinson replaced Matt Holliday in the lineup. Holliday was a game-time scratch for the second night in a row due to back spasms. He is day to day. "He thought it was going to loosen up better than it did," Matheny said.
